See Your Facebook Profile as a Stranger (View As)

StalkFace View As

View As shows your profile through a stranger's eyes. Paste your own profile link below to open the sections a stranger can reach, then use the steps to run View As on Facebook itself.

Attention: this tool does not violate Facebook's privacy settings. 'Only me' stays 'Only me'. It only shows hidden content you have access to.

How to use View As

  1. Open your profile in the Facebook app or on the web.
  2. Tap or click the three dots next to Edit profile.
  3. Choose View As.
  4. Facebook reloads your profile as it looks to someone who is not your friend. Scroll the timeline, open the Photos and About tabs and check the friends list.
  5. Tap Exit View As at the top when you are done.

View As shows the Public view only. The option to view as a specific person was removed in 2018 after a security incident, and it has not come back.

What View As does not show

View As renders your own profile, so it misses the things that live on other people's profiles: photos a friend posted and tagged you in, check-ins a friend made with you, and comments you wrote under public posts. Those follow the friend's audience, not yours, and they are often the most visible part of a person online.

That is what the tool above adds. Paste your profile link, press the button, and open Tags under Photos, the comments links and the places list. Each one shows what Facebook's search returns for your profile to any logged-in stranger.

Fix what you find

Common questions

Can I view my Facebook profile as a specific friend?

Not any more. View As shows only the public view. To check what a friend sees, ask them, or use a second account that is on your friends list.

Why do I see nothing in View As but people still find my photos?

Because those photos are on your friends' profiles. Tagged photos and check-ins follow the uploader's audience, and View As only renders what is on your own profile.

Is there a View As option on mobile?

Yes. Open your profile in the app, tap the three dots next to Edit profile and choose View As.

Does View As show what a logged-out visitor sees?

Close to it. A logged-out visitor sees the same public sections, minus a few things Facebook only serves to signed-in users.
