How to search Facebook posts by keyword

Type the words you are looking for in the box above: a name, a place, a phrase from a post.
Pick where to search. Posts comes selected; People, Pages and Groups find accounts instead of posts.
Press the button. StalkFace builds the link to Facebook's own search for those words.
Open it. Facebook runs the search in a new tab, in your own session, and shows what your account is allowed to see.

Facebook search without logging in

Facebook's own search needs a login. Open a search link while logged out and Facebook asks you to sign in first. That is why this page builds a second link: a Google search limited to facebook.com, which works without any account.

Google only knows the public part of Facebook it has been able to crawl: public profiles, Pages, public groups and some public posts. It will not find posts shared with friends, and new posts can take a while to show up. For a quick check on a name or a business, it is often enough.

What each search tab finds

Posts: public posts with your words, plus posts from your friends and your groups that you are allowed to see.
All results: a mix of people, posts, Pages and groups, ranked for your account.
Photos and Videos: pictures and clips whose posts contain your words.
People: profiles whose names match. With a common name, add a city or a school.
Pages: businesses, brands and public figures.
Groups: public and private groups whose names match. For private groups you see the name, not the posts.

Who can see your searches

Nobody you search for. Facebook does not tell a person that their name came up in someone's search, and it keeps no visitor list for profiles. Your search history stays in your own account, where only you can see it and clear it.

StalkFace does not see your words either. The links are put together in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to this site or stored.

How do I search Facebook posts by keyword?

Type the words above, pick Posts and press the button. The link opens Facebook's post search for those words in a new tab, in your usual session. You see public posts, plus posts from your friends and groups that you are allowed to see.

Does Facebook search work without logging in?

Not inside Facebook: its search asks you to log in. The Google link on this page searches public Facebook pages without an account. It finds profiles, Pages and some public posts that Google knows about, not all of Facebook.

Does the person see that I searched for them?

No. Facebook does not tell anyone that their name came up in someone else's search, and it does not report profile views either.

Does StalkFace see what I search for?

No. The links are built in your browser. The words you type are not sent to StalkFace or stored anywhere.

Why are my results different from someone else's?

Facebook ranks results for each account, using your friends, groups, location and language. Two people typing the same words get different lists. Posts shared with friends only show up for people in that audience.
