How to see a Facebook profile picture in full size

The small round picture on a profile is a thumbnail. The full-size version is a normal photo in the Profile Pictures album, and Facebook opens it in the regular photo viewer when the audience allows it.

Paste the profile link above and press the button.
Open Photos under Profile. The Profile Pictures album lists every profile picture the person kept, newest first.
Click the one you want. Facebook shows it at the largest size that was uploaded, with the date it was set, the likes and the comments.
For the cover photo, use the same album list and pick Cover Photos.

On a phone, the same links open in the Facebook app or on m.facebook.com. Tap the picture, then tap it again to go full screen.

Locked profiles and what changes

Profile lock is the one thing that closes this door. When a person locks their profile, people who are not their friends lose the full-size profile picture and the full-size cover photo. You still see the thumbnail, and that is all. The lock also turns older public photos into friends-only ones in a single step.

If the picture opens but looks small or blurry, that is what you are seeing. No extension or DP viewer app can add pixels that Facebook did not send.

Why old profile pictures are often still public

Each photo in the Profile Pictures album keeps the audience it had on the day it was set. Facebook makes the current profile picture public, and most people never revisit the older ones. So a profile with a guarded current picture often has five years of earlier pictures sitting in the album, each with its own likes, comments and tagged names.

Cover photos behave the same way. The current one is public by default and the previous ones stay wherever they were left.

What a profile picture tells you

The date it was set, which shows how active the profile is.
Who liked and commented, which is usually the inner circle.
Tagged people, when it is a group photo.
The album it came from, when it was picked from an existing one.

Common questions

Can I see the profile picture on a locked account?

Usually yes. Facebook keeps profile and cover photos public by default, even on locked profiles, unless the person changed that setting themselves.

Can I download the picture?

No. StalkFace only opens the photo on Facebook. It does not copy, resize or store anything.

Does Facebook tell the person?

No. StalkFace never touches their account. It builds a search link, and Facebook does not notify anyone about searches or profile views.

Why does the profile picture open small or blurry?

Because the full-size version is limited to friends, or the profile is locked. Facebook sends non-friends only the thumbnail in that case.

Can I see the full-size profile picture on a locked profile?

Not unless you are on their friends list. The lock exists to hide exactly that, and apps that promise a way around it only show the same thumbnail bigger.

Does the person get a notification when I open their profile picture?

No. Facebook does not report profile views or photo views to anyone.
